After coming back from the puppet show we heard music coming from all around. Once we emerged from the station we could see that the Global Ring Theater was packed with people. That was due to the Jazz Festival. This event was a huge project, nine stages thousands of people and a huge tech presence. Of the five bands we saw in the two hours we were there we saw 70 musicians at least. The first band had 15 the second had 18 the third had 19 and so on. Even the small band had five musicians so the effort was enormous and we were so happy to be able to be the recipients of all that work. It certainly paid off from a listeners point of view.
The common theme was brass, here is band #1
That was a wrap
Lots of horns here too 14 in total in this band alone
In theory we could tell you the names of all the bands but some are only written in Japanese and we are not sure exactly what time we started watching
Five saxophones, four trumpets and four trombones!
Solo time
Another band setting up bringing in the hardware
And the big gun arrives
There were two stages side by side. While one band was playing the other would be setting up
Playing the trombone
Fancy souvenir scarves for the participants
What great music
We really enjoyed this band, four guitars and a drum
High energy!
Six string
The last band had an extended sound check and we still had dinner waiting for us
Time to leave the night scene to the young folks
