17 September 2025 Paris: The Palace of Versailles

The palace of Versailles was once the largest palace in the world.  It is still "all that!"  Sprawling, spectacular, stupendous, sensational, splendiferous and superb.  Versailles is all this and more.  Even though much of the furniture did not remain in the palace after the revolution, it has been furnished with period pieces that are appropriate.  More importantly after the revolution the palace was made into an art museum and there is art on every wall, most of the ceiling's and on a floor or two.

Louie the ?  Pick a number from 1 to 16

Another great day for exploring

We have been dropped off by our uber with 10 minutes to spare

The fence and the gate were spectacular

As we approach the entrance

We see the main gate

How I was able to get the gate without people in front of it is a mystery

Lining up to enter

We are in but still a good distance away

Let the sculptures begin, it is good to be the King

Wild horses

The Chappelle Royal

A massive place

50 foot ceilings?

Louie lou-eye

The highest probability of identifying the correct Louis is to pick Louie XIV.  He ruled for 72 years from 1642 to 1715

Louis XIV was born in the Louver Palace and later commissioned the building of Versailles

The layout

Floral and regal

Lots of bronze heads

And a stylized dolphin

A fine landscape

Huge paintings everywhere

A set of chairs on wheels

During the 1800's when they had spectacular firework shows

This sculpture was 10 feet tall and 20 feet wide

A grand staircase

Just a cabinet to place a few items

A bit of inlay to make it look nice

A couple of dogs!

Perhaps a set of fine liquors were stored in this cabinet

A table made with all sorts of rare minerals and crystals

The many lovers of Louis XIV

Even the window closures are fancy

Room after room after room along this hall way

It is enough to make a girl swoon!

The quality of the pieces in the palace makes me wonder what was there before the revolution

This was 3-D

A large chandelier

A huge door with some fancy decorations

The ceiling is so intricately painted

Yes, entire logs fit into the fireplace

Oh my, what a fine door

Louis the XV could also be a good guess, he ruled for 59 years

Another fantastic ceiling

Centaurs!

Cherubs

3-D maidens

More cherubs

Royal beds

I would be worried about these huge chandeliers

Battle scenes abound

Exotic folk

Behold the Hall of Mirrors

King Louis

Queen Leip and her consort

Artists laboring for years

Leips enjoying io all

Next to the extravagant mirrors

More fighting

More travelers

An impromptu dance

Busted!

Ac]scending the throne

My neck is getting sore

Was there any gold left in France?

the King's bed

Harkening back to Greek times

More babies!

This  is visual overload

The porcelain victory pillar

The revolution comes around and it is no longer good to be the king

Even Napoleon gets into the act

This pillar in the coronation room stood out as a unique item, it is the Austerlitz column.  Commissioned by Napoleon to commemorate his German campaign

These are a magnificent set of stairs

Just amazing

On our way out we stopped in a display of busts

This one on particular was impressive

So nice there was even a painting of the sculpture

But those eyes

The pupils are hearts

A pastry shop is set up onsite

Maybe one needs a bottle of champagne for apicnic

We are out of the palace and headed to the gardens

It is a bit of a walk

One last statue to pass

It has been 3 years and 103 days since we began our Migration
