We were faced with the time vs. money quandary today. Should we take the hour long bus ride or jump in an Uber. Since we are four travelers the math works out in favor of comfort and convivence. So instead of an hour, we are in Eze in just 25 minutes. There was a little market at the base of the hill where we bought some snacks. The path was all uphill from there. Luckily there ware shops, art galleries, statues and informational plaques to read along the way. We may have looked like we were reading studiously but usually it was a chance to catch our breath. The top was the exotic garden that was a mix of cacti, succulents and aloe plants. Many of them were blooming and interspersed within the plants was an entire series of 15 "Earth Goddess" sculptures by artist Jean-Phillipe Richard. These sculptures were of serene and beautiful women tastefully accentuating the plants in the garden. We had out picnic lunch, gazed at the magnificent vistas and enjoyed our visit. We took a ride home again and watched a fine sunset.
Learning so sail
Heading to Eze through several tunnels
We are hugging the edge of the cliff face
Another tunnel and a nice sturdy wall
We will be up on the top of this hill in only a half an hour
First we buy some nougat
Not an easy task
3-D little "paintings" built up with layers of paper
A VW bus lamp
Look who found a La Negressco bag
This is the gate to the Chateau Chevre
It is a hotel now
These trash cans are tailor made for Eze
A stony gaze
Dave and Kris sitting on the jagged edge
This is the edge...
This Knight in shining armor will save her for sure
A zoo in sculpture format
A giraffe
A shop selling olive wood carvings
Most delightful
Some birdwatching
Everything here is stacked up on top of everything else
Little paths and routes were all around
Looking down at the chateau grounds
We are up on top of the world
The stairs continue up and up further
Narrow and rugged
Are these AirBnB's?
This guy wanted to to take my picture
Time for more stairs
These are all sun-dial pendants
La Cat Butt
Art galleries everywhere
Following the signs to the exotic garden
We purchased oiut tickets at the kiosk and skipped the line
Getting higher and higher
The exotics are mostly cacti
Some really tall ones
Succulents too
We have not yet reached the top
Tricky navigating the narrow paths
Pretty blooms
Not what I would have expected from a cacti
This is more like it
What? More uphill climbing?
So many yachts in the bay
The strip of houses continue
Two clock faces, two different times
We found a nice secluded spot for a lunch picnic
Lovely yellow blooms
The paths are switch backs and occasionally there is a traffic jam
Now we are up on the top, 1400 feet above the Mediterranean
The boats are so tiny from up here
The sculptures blended in nicely with the garden vibe
Calm and serene women
They seem to have just gotten some gardening done and are now admiring how nice the garden is doing
A mosaic map of the surroundings
Sweetie pie!
What a vista
A sweet lady amongst some spiny cacti
Time too head back down
I make a better door than a window, as the saying goes
Intrepid explorers
Looking back up to the top
More lovely ladies
These look like they are made of sandstone
One last statue
From the other side
The dove is sitting on its house
A very unique chimney and so many yachts in the background
A different style of sculpture
Dots!
Don't come around knocking on the door
It is open season on goats
A narrow path
Looking out the window
This part of town is pretty empty
Locked knocker
A key, a knob and a hook
Flowers
This door has seen better days
A mini door
The best door in town
A mermaid
Still scaly
Not taking the bus was a great idea!
This is actually an office building
Back at the place and we see some lazy paddleboarders
Nive sunset
Heavily armed
The flag
Looking great
The golden streak
A big cruise boat heading out
Good night all
