15 June 2022 Ketchikan Alaska: Up Up and Away Seaplane!

When we chose the excursions that we wanted to do, we asked ourselves, what is unique in this area and how can we experience the uniqueness?  Since Ketchikan is right next to the Misty Fjords National Mountain we thought that a seaplane tour is the best use of our time.  Mike and Deb came with us.  It was only a 10 minute drive to the  seaplanes and we were waiting only another 10 minutes.  Our Pilot Max was a young looking 22 years old.  He asked for volunteers to sit in the front seat and my hand instantly went up.  I am not sure it was true but he said he saw my hand first and so I was the chosen one.  We took off and climbed quickly to 3000 feet.  The surrounding peaks are higher than this as I noticed multiple times on the ride.

Off we go for the first time in days

Yes our pilot is just 22

He appears to know what he is doing.

Tall mountains off in the distance

Lakes and peaks everywhere

We also saw waterfalls

Glaciers are master carvers

Lush Valleys

Fertile deltas

This lake is long enough to land a sea plane on it, which is exactly what Max did with his wife when they got married

Lots of details to see

Big Waterfall

This peak is taller than the 3000 feet altitude that we are maintaining.  It was very disconcerting to see us flying steadily towards it.

A glacier sliced this mountain cleanly
