7/8 June 2022: Hollywood Florida to Vancouver BC

As we sit in our 25th floor AirBnB feeling the cool Vancouver breeze blowing in from off the water, we get a chance to relax and review the last 30 hours.  The flight from Fort Lauderdale to Seattle was six and a half hours with two hours of bumpy air.  It was 9 PM local time when we landed past our normal east coast bedtime.  Since we have had so little experience with checking in luggage, we were worn out from the whole "claiming of the bags" process.  The uncertainty of which belt to rush towards, the jockeying for position, the judging of the bags as they inch past was allot,  As it turned out, the very first bag off the belt was Leslie's.  That helped us a bit but we still had to catch a shuttle, check in and take a shower.  Midnight Seattle time came around and we were just getting into bed.  Fitful dreams of huge amounts of luggage filled my night.  Since our Vancouver flight was international, we needed to be there on time so we changed the time on our phones. Time change, a simple thing that turned to have a big impact the next morning.  I then turned my phone off to avoid the various bleeps and twirdles it randomly makes during the night. and we went to sleep.   There was no need to have set the alarm, as we were awake before it would have gone off.  I turned my phone back on and the new phone app made me  login which is unusual.  Even more unusual is that it did not let me actually log in so we could not make any calls or get any texts.  I not time to worry about that we had a flight to catch and there was some repacking to be done.    The repack was necessary so that we could both check in two bags.  Did I mention that we have too much luggage.  As the guy on he shuttle said, you need a U-Haul for your bags.  He was not exaggerating by much.  We made it to our tiny plane and there was no room for even small bags in the overhead.  We will need to keep this in mind for our later flights in Canada.  Still the phones were not working.  I had contacted the company and thee were working on it. The flight to Vancouver is only a brief 28 minutes but getting out of the airport was another thing entirely.  The immigration kiosk could not take my passport picture because there was a small fold in the corner.  We got a thorough grilling by the immigration officers and to top it off I was picked to have a random Covid test.  That took a bit but we were in the AirBnB by 3PM even with all that.  It is a great place and we took a walk around to enjoy the green spaces.  The sun was shining and so we sat in the park for a while and chilled.  On our way back we hot the store and got soup makings and dinner makings.  A quick hour in the kitchen and we have dinner made and a big pot of soup cooked as well.  We both noticed a weird delay in the timing of some apps so we saw that our phones was off.  It turns out that both of our phones were showing that it was the  9th of June when it was the 8th.  We changed that and in the window I saw that we were still listed as east coast time zone.  Once that chanced our phones both worked and all the texts came through!  These are the things we did in that 30 hour span.
