11 December 2023 Paphos: Exploring Towards the Center of Town

We woke to thunder, howling winds and flashes of lightning.  Soon the tink tink tink of hail on the windows was added to the storm sounds.  It was an very intense storm and after it stopped we looked out and found that the entire parking lot in the back of our building was flooded!  It was a good thing that we were not in a hurry to go anywhere, much less to load up our bags in that mess.  Some official looking men showed up and began pumping the water to the front of the building where it flowed over the walkway and into the sea.  All of the run off created a plume of muddy water that expanded out from the shore as the day went on.  By noon the skies were clear and so was our exit from the building so we had lunch and went exploring.  We saw a very early Christian Basilica and some nice proposed renovations.  Of course there were some less nice spots as well.  Such is the nature of an old town catering to the tourist trade.
