14 December 2023 Paphos: The Sea Caves and Agios Georgios Church

Another beautiful day, another outing into Cyprus.  We headed a half hour north to the Sea Caves and then to the Chapel of Agios Georgios.  The sea caves were viewed from the cliffs above the water.  There was a pottery shop at the Chapel with the cutest pieces for sale.  We liked them so much that we violated our "no souvenirs" rule and bought the smallest thing he had.  We had taken the back roads and passed through an agricultural area where they were growing bananas, avocados, grapes, pomegranates,  papaya and of all things cactus.  There was a large shipwreck close to shore that where we briefly took a peek.  Then it was lunch at Sonny's where the greater told us we had only a half hour before the place closed.  We immediately tried to order the Fish and Chips and Moussaka that we saw on the chalk board menu.  He did not have either of these items which seemed odd since he could have erased them.  It turned out he was going to shut the place down in three days and take six weeks off so he was just using up what he had on hand.   What he had on had way very good so we did not mind.

We stopped off at a little beach on the way

Tall grasses

Filled with small birds

A prehistoric looking lizard jumped as I took the picture

The bananas were in blue bags to protect them from the crows

the big places are further up the hill

Reminded us of the Galapagos

A standing stone

The caves

I wonder is they sing when the waves are bigger?

On the other side of the little inlet

We stood on top of the rock overhang not realizing how undercut they were

An Island in the distance

This rock seemed to be pretty large

The water was a nice blue

Oh my some dark clouds

The inlet had a triangular shape

A closer look at the undercut bank

A bright green bush

A small marina behind the Chapel

The Island we saw from the sea caves

A blend of Ottoman and Orthodox styles

An out door oven?

Roses!

Inside the dome

A ring  od windows lets in so much light

Alter of fame

It is never a good day for the dragon

So many ceramic items

Made for strong spirits

The pottery barn

It could be a nut bowl

More roses

Asleep at the wheel

Ran aground

We decided that the clouds are from the sea breeze

The unsung heroes

Sonny's for lunch

There were other diners at the start

Just us at the end

Solar power

Nipple power

Tonight's sunset was a bit more subdued

It has been 1 year and 192 days since we began our Migration
