13 December 2023 Paphos: Back to the Archeological Park for Round Two

Who is stronger than a fort that was destroyed in an earthquake.  Who is faster than a disaster 23 years after the fortified Castle was erected.  It is Super Polly, that is who.  This wrecked fort was built around 1200 CE and it was completely destroyed in an earthquake in 1223.  It was never rebuilt.  Columns are strewn about, walls have collapsed but interesting enough two arches are still intact 800 years later.  We came back to the Archeological site to see some things that we had missed the first time.  It was a great jaunt.

Smart Tourism had TeamLeip stamped all over it

Arch #1

Arch #2

Some sort of water system used to fill the moat

They provided a map of the way the fort was

These seemed to be carved out of the underlying rock

The base of one of the circular towers

Tossed aside by the power of the earthquake

Pillars strewn about everywhere

A European Kestrel

Posing for the camera

It was a massive stone building

Cubby holes?

A special white stone object

Slotted marble pieces int he center of the tower

Behold the Aphrodite born of the seafoam of the Island of Cyprus

These rounded stones seemed to fit into the side stones

A matching structure on the other side

The main entrance was through these arches

A collections of large rounded  stones, perhaps a store house of projectiles

Two Travelers

Two Arches

More circular stone items

A very sharp plant

Amphitheater and lighthouse

Crow on the wing

Outside the walls, this building is painted

The sea!

Grottoes in the cliffs

Separate rooms

Some larger than others

The largest of the chambers

A closet of sorts

Squared out openings to other rooms

More carved areas, perhaps a shrine

A pile of pigeon poo was through this door

Plant based  graffiti

Lunch stop

The audience has left

But the wagtail performs anyway

More toppled columns

Passing the lighthouse on our way out to the coastal walking trail

European Goldfinch

An odd cut out of this boulder

Hooded Crow longing to be a Sailor

The other side of the Harbor Castle

Leslie is getting the attention of the local Police

Tiny fish

A very judging sign. Who, if anyone is unnecessary?

A large sailing vessel

It has been 1 year and 191 days since we began our Migration
