The second half of the drive was a bit more crowded but the road was slightly more forgiving. On this leg there were still one way bridges and tunnels and a few busses to keep it exciting. We entered the Killarney National Park in grand style with a superb lookout point. Then we zigged and zagged down to the town of Killarney.
The fencing seemed barely adequate to hold the sheep inside
They would certainly not keep a car on the road
The terrain continued to be rugged
The mountains were taller
A gate to spectacular scenery
The higher we climb the smaller the sheep appear
A very tight fit
Out first large lake, Upper Lake Killarney, it is right at the edge of the national park
Many different greens
The first sighting of the three lakes
Selfie time!
There is a boat on the lake
The three lakes are interconnected, one flows into the other. Lake Killarney into Muckross Lake into Lake Leane
The limestone is often at the surface
A fantastic day for lake viewing
This is a favorite for bike trekkers
Ladies View was named such by Queen Victoria
A vide valley
An understatement
Even the bridges are hard to navigate
The ferns and moss were grant
One way tunnel that seemed to just recently been carved out of the rock
We have descended to the lower levels
The hills all have the tell tale post-ice cap shape
Rounded at the top instead of pointy
The lakes were also gouged out by glaciers
