22 September 2024 Adare: A Fine AirBnB and a Fine Dinner Too

The road passing through Adare seemed to be the only road around.  As such many large trucks came right through the center of town.  Big coach busses and farm equipment were also regularly seen on this road.  As such, traffic backed up as all the vehicles had to slow down and navigate through the town.  We inched into town and had our lunch.  Then we had to brave the traffic again to get to the guardhouse of the manor where we picked up the key to the AirBnB.  The man at the guard shack was most delightful in his top hat and fancy coat.  Phillip the host works for the Manor as a valet driver so everyone knew him.  Irish stays have late check in times usually 4 or 5 PM.  This place was no exception and by the time we unloaded and got settled in, it was time for dinner.  We walked to the end of our lane and pressed the intercom button at the gate.  They let us in and we walked tot the carriage house.  Dinner was delightful with fun interactions with the sommelier, a crisp and dry sense of humor, the manager, who was born in the USA and actually knew where Hollywood FL was.  We had a grand time with dinner, drinks and dessert.  Laura graciously decided to pay for diner as compensation for all our planning, so very nice of her, thanks again.  The only problem was when the bill came.  The check was presented and she signed the bill at the bottom.  At this point we all got up to leave.  As I was heading out to the front to arrange the ride back to the gate, I saw the waiter coming with the credit card machine.  He hesitated upon seeing us all standing up and he did not bring the machine over to Laura.  Perhaps he thought we were staying at the Manor and that we were signing the bill to the room.  Fast forward a few minutes and we are congregated in the front area waiting for the shuttle when the manager came in.  We chatted some more and when Leslie says Laura had the coat check claim ticket he asked where was Laura?  It turns out we had not paid the bill and her signature on the receipt was not sufficient.  We were suitably embarrassed and this was now two situations in three nights that we had problems with paying.  Lots of ribbing from all the folks stateside about dining and dashing but we got it sorted and were chauffeured back to our gate.

A handy listing of the dates for the local buildings of note
