9 May 2025 Bologna: Off We Go Into the Old Town

I should have paid more attention to the walk around from the AirBnB host because when I plotted the Coop that he showed me, I ended up plotting the wrong one.  On top of that we did not follow the google path, so our trip, which was already longer than it should be, was even longer.  That was not a problem, as we were megandering all along the way along the old town, it was just a bit of a let down to find the market was very limited.  So when we got back to the house we dropped off our stuff and took a bus to a more authentic market, the Mercato delle Erbe.  This market was just what we wanted, so much fresh produce that we stocked up and took the bus back home.

Have corner, will insert nook

Glorious doors everywhere

A honking big knocker

Love the exposed blocks of stone

A knocker, a anti-bite screen and a keyhole

Bologna is known for the porticos everywhere

A tall bouquet of flowers

The flute on the street

The porticoes are under the extended part of the building

Grand gates and lights

In the piazza

The church

The clock tower

Domini, donini

Man and dog

Neptune in Green

These collage kids are in an organization

They wear funny hats

They have banners, and chants that they all yell out

Here is the banner

We thought we would sit in these couches

No, they are made out of stone

A ceremonial cistern

this ceremonial cistern was designed in 1587, transported to the Fine Arts Academy in1886 and then here in 1934

A metal cover to keep the trash out of the planters.  It did not keep the cigarette butts out

The buildings are big in these parts

Another nook for Jesus

Knockers are a thing here

In the old town it is essential

But if you don't have a fancy knocker at least have a good door knob

At the end of the portico, a fresco

Any given intersection will impress

These bricks are sticking out

Is this the cowardly lion from OZ?

The Mercato delle Erbe looks to be very large

Lots of veggies to choose from

We bought stuff from four different vendors

Brains or cabbage?

Da bomb!

We also bought some flowers for the house

Not this giant orchid...

Nor did we buy this funky beer.  We stopped in the nearby market and got some salmon to cook for dinner

Beans!

This graffiti caught my eye!
