Next door to the museum, the BUB library is located. There were several areas of note. The card catalogue area had the most beautifully painted walls and ceilings to augment the cabinet after cabinet of cards. There the story of Andreo Caronti was told. He took it upon himself to manually correct the catalogue system of the collection. He worked on this from 1866 to 1878. This task would be nearly impossible for a single person today as the library as 1,250,000 volumes and 400 pieces of art and 900 Japanese manuscripts. In 1755, the Pope Benedict XIV decreed that every book that was printed in Bologna had to provide a copy to the library and the collection really grew. Another place of note was the grand reading room. It was huge and decorated in rich wooden tones with wooden inlay in the tables and on the shelves. We then headed over to the Physics Building where they had a small collection of physics instruments.
