Bora Bora: a jewel in the Pacific Ocean

During the descent we were treated to a spectacular view of this island. The central main island has three craggy rock peaks, each covered with lush green blanket of vegetation. Surrounding this is a series of motu islands that enclose a sheltered lagoon.  A motu is made from coral that gets broken by the waves and this coral builds up to create an island.  The water on the inside has as many colors of blue and green as you can imagine. Depth, sun angle, the composition of the bottom and the surface conditions all contribute to an infinite palette of colors!  We got off of the plane and soaked all of this in. The Conrad had a boat waiting to take us to our slice of this paridise.

This best shows the local geography.   The deep blue is the Pacific ocean.  The white line is where the ocean waves break also known as the breakers. Then comes the motu island and beyond that all the colors if the lagoon.  Finally the center volcanic core of the main island.

Yes, we have arrived!
