we decided to take a bike ride and road from one end of the property to the other. The presidential Villa is at one extreme and then we rode all the way along the edge of the water to a pathway that leads past some black volcanic rocks. From there we went to the sign that said service personnel only. We kept going because we love a challenge but then turned around before we got in trouble. Ambroisine had sent us a message telling us there was a special happy hour celebration down at the dock. So we stopped by the dock and got our complimentary cocktail. We did not realize that there was very special entertainment there. This month is the start of the Heiva which is a month-long multi Island celebration of all things Polynesian. As part of the entertainment we learned a few words in Tahitian. In addition there were dancers. Part of the celebration is of course dancing and canoe races. To compete the girls have to be 16 but these ladies were 13. The dancing is important enough to the culture that even at that age they are training and practicing. It also explains why we saw so many different ocean-going canoes out. They were trying to get that last-minute training in.
We are breaking the rules!
If you look closely you can see the strangely formed black volcanic rocks behind us should we have still not learned that I should not tell a joke while Leslie is either trying to be in a selfie or trying to drink a glass of milk.
We watched the waves breaking all day amazed at the power of the ocean
They are cultivating coral all over on the property. This one is in the shape of a turtle
