The funicular and the zoo

We had a nice cab ride over to the funicular. The funicular takes us up to the top of the hill in a park that contains a zoo and a statue up at the top, Cerro San Cristobal. We timed it perfectly so that after we bought our ticket we took the next vernacular up the hill to the zoo. On our way back the line was much longer and those folks probably had to wait two or three trips to get up hill. We had a delightful time at the zoo with a thousand schoolchildren. Perhaps a thousand is an exaggeration but they were a lot of them. It is not the biggest zoos but it was very nice to see some South American animals displayed. I particularly liked the Lemurs and some of the birds in the Aviary. After the zoo we got back on the funicular and went up to the top of this mountain. We stopped at some tea took some pictures and enjoyed the surroundings.  There must be a bike trail up to the summit, because we saw several people ride up on their bikes and stop and get snacks.

The station was built like an old Gothic Castle

Only one way to go and that is up

Weee, haveing a ride

Is that you Mr. Emu?

One of two tigers

Both Tigers were very active in their cages today

And quite beautiful too

it was in the upper 50s at this point and all the Lemurs were staying together to warm up

There are three types of, Lloyds in South America. The vinca the llama and the gunaco.  This is a vinca

This is the best shot I could get at the red panda. He was moving fast and never stopped

The Emu was very close. Maybe a foot away

I'm not sure if this llama is drunk or not but he does not look sober

This llama is put together better than his buddy

Perhaps a harpy eagle

The brown bear was in a semi hibernating state

The Chimps were just taking asleep in the Sun

Baboons also soaking up the Sun

The whole family was playing about. We saw the alpha male grab a baby and take him up to a spot where he couldn't climb on his own

Long-necked animal number one

Long-necked animal number 2

You guessed it long necked animal number 3

And there's Leslie over to the left hand side

A type of Ibis was very large

The Scarlet Ibis was brilliantly red

Time to jump in for a swim

One foot in and one foot out

Scarlet macaw

The giraffe from the other side of his cage

There were two Gibbons hanging off the fence by one arm

Back to where we started at the Lemur cage

Soaking up the Sun.

As the fog burned off and the sun Shone brighter everybody got a chance to soak up the heat
