There are only two beaches that have sand on Rapa Nui. The best one was the one that the original Founders landed on according to the oral tradition. This is the one beach that the king kept for himself. Therefore it is called the Kings Beach. The king then subdivided the island into seven districts, one for each of the founding families. The moai that are here are very well preserved because they were covered in sand even though they had been toppled. The sand preserve them and so very fine details can be found on these. We are almost all the way around the island now and it is already after 5 PM so the National Park is closed. Leslie and I went down by ourselves and took some pictures and saw a very cute German Shepherd. He followed us until he realized that we had no food for him to eat and then he left.
