20 Sep 2021 Paris Arc de Triomphe

We were not aware that the wrapping of the Arc de Triomphe was happening until we saw it on the CBS Sunday morning show 6 days before we got left on our trip.  It was planned years ago by the artist Christo and Jeanne-Claude and it has happened post-humously.  Better late than never!  I wonder how it will look when it is not so cloudy, but I like how it blends in to the cloud cover.  We watched as it got larger and larger as we approached it along the Champs-Elysées.  We then drove around it in slow motion due to the traffic in the circle.   They used 250,000 square feet of recyclable cloth and 15,000 feet of red rope.  Underneath the cloth is a very elaborate scaffolding system that is keeping all the intricate carvings safe.  Yesterday they closed the Champs-Elysées to cars and turned the street into a pedestrian walkway.  Tens of thousands of people were there yesterday to see this.  It will only be up for 16 days so we are super lucky to be able to see this.
