We drove from Bordeaux to the Mediterranean coast and a perfect lunch spot was the medieval walled town of Carcassonne. It was perfect to stretch the legs, see some history and get a bite. We wandered around, poked our heads into some shops and enjoyed the beautiful day.
As we drove up the the village the roads were very tine. As Laura had pointed out you either get 3/4 of a lane or when it is market two lanes it is really just 1 and 1/2 lanes.
A cemetery flanks the main gate
A drawbridge and a moat, oh my!
Its hard to imagine the decades of carving, moving and laying stone
Very tall walls with the slots in the walls to shoot arrows out of
Amazingly intact
Man the ramparts!
As in Pickle the dog!
A lovely warm sunny day!
The inner sanctum, walls within walls
I had to stop in the truffle store and sample the wares. I bought a black truffle mixture to spread later
Oh the humanity!
Such fine stone masonry
Caesar Salads for everyone
And a fine beer too!
Our cafe
Rested, restored and back on the road
Right by the WC's was a basin filled with the local spring water. Anyone was allowed to fill up their water containers here. This guy's job was to keep the basin clean. He had micro pool tools that he was using. Not a bad job if you can get it.
