10 December 2021 Santiago Chile Parquemet Parque

The fourth largest City Park in the world is Parqumet Park in Santiago.  It is basically a small mountain, Cerro san Cristobal, and within its borders you can find a zoo, two pool, a funicular, a cable car, a chapel, a statue of the Virgin Mary a few places to eat, hiking and biking trails and much more.  We had already visited the zoo and ridden on the funicular so today we were cable car riders.  We had to take a bus up to the station and then got the all day ticket.  $7 USD for the two of us.  We first rode down and then all the way up and then half way down again.  In between all that we stopped for a fine lunch. We took the bus back down to where we started.  Our uber driver was a singer and he played some of his music for us on the ride.  His name is Gabriel Fuerza and he was pretty good.

We woke up to the Paris alarm clock!  This building likes it wine.

I am seeing a theme here in Santiago, make wine not war!

The Aubrey Hotel at the base of San Cristobal

We had to take a bus up to the top of the hill

Because the funicular is closed for renovations.  It is 100 years old after all

One of a rare points along this road that had a railing

The Costerna building in the background

We are up there and the wind is blowing

The cable car travels between two different peaks, here we are heading over the first one

On to the second peak

A statue of the Virgin Mary is 22 meters tall,  I can remember when she was just this tall

Everyone is wearing their masks everywhere, both inside and outside

Lots of very cool flowers

The chapel was very nice

It is weird that Christmas is in the middle of summer, but that is the southern hemisphere for you

Some lunch

A painting of the funicular many years ago

I got tongue in a cream and walnut sauce and Leslie got chicken and creamed spinach

Our restaurant for lunch.  The group in front were having their Christmas banquet with gifts and everything

No helmet on this skateboarder!  He was flying down the hill.
