16 December 2021 Peurto Varas: The ride back and a walk around town

The ride back went a little easier as we had already been through it once on the way out.  Sergio, our driver, stopped and showed me another large volcano that I took a picture of.  We saw interesting things along the way such as a municipal Christmas tree made from plastic 2 liter bottles, two different trucks transporting live fish, three volcanos visible all together.  We arrived back at Hotel Cumbers at 6:15 to a beautiful day.  As we were unpacking Leslie offered the left over pizza to Sergio  We wanted to shower to get the massage oil off of us but the weather was so nice that we decided to walk into town instead.  What a wise decision!  I got a silver pendant and Leslie got a few copper bookmarks.  then we came across a Christmas market which was very cool.  We couldn't miss the political rally for the far right presidential candidate, Jose Kast.  They were honking horns and waving flags and blocking the sidewalks and such.  From what we have gathered in talking to folks, this candidate is too extreme.  The election is on Sunday the 19th of December.  After we made it past the crown we found a delightful restaurant for dinner.  We had a bit of a problem as Leslie did not bring her purse.  I was carrying her mobility pass but she needed an ID to satisfy the liquor license.  The usual greeter had called in hungover so Alex one of the big wigs greeted us.  He was very personal and told us about their sourdough, how long it had been growing, what temperatures to cook the base and the top of the bread.  The quote that we liked the best was "we eat so that we can drink more!".

It is a long downhill back to Puerto Varas

Diaphanous statuary

We saw this guy picking up the trash on the beach.  I yelled out Gracious and he responded where are you from.  I guess my accent gave it away.  It turns out that he is from California and is married to a Chilean and just wants to leave a place a little better than when he came.
