There are only 6 gates at the Puerto Montt Airport so we were able to transit to our gate rather easily. We had a bite of lunch that we brought with us and then stood in line for a long time to board. It turns out that the plane was still half full from the folks that were continuing on. We managed to get situated and I took the middle seat and Leslie got the window. She was the photographer for the pictures from the plane. The archipelago along the coast is something to behold. It is filled with mountains, glaciers, lakes and rivers. Most of the mountains were snow capped and so they must be quite tall. We really enjoyed seeing everything and so we did not make much progress n our books. Once we got tour luggage, we still had to wait in line to get out of the terminal as there was a very long line of people trying to arrange their local transport. We had prearranged a ride through Heidi from Bories House and she sent her favorite taxi driver Inez. She was right there waiting for us! We saw her turn away two or three folks wanting to hire her just in the time it took us to walk over to her.
A nice open and modern airport
Tight pack
Abandoned planes on the side of the runway
I wonder why these are here?
The archipelago on the south west portion of Chile
A glacial melt lake / river
A bright blue lake
A glacier flowing
Recent avalanches?
We saw numerous glaciers in various shapes
Snaking through the topography
Muddy from runoff
Mini icebergs
Opening up
A glacier melting onto another glacier?
Starting our decent
We are approaching our landing
These lakes are on the mainland
And the lakes are much bigger
Yes the dreaded stairs down from the plane
We have arrived
In Inez's Taxi!
