Surrounding the Shoshuenco Volcano is the Huilo Huilo Nature Reserve. Within the reserve is the Nothofagus Hotel. It is named after the scientific name of the Shouthern Beech tree, The hotel grounds actually has a series of hotels. There is Nothofagus, Montana Magica, Reino Fungi and Marina Del Fuy also they have a series of cabins and standalone apartments (https://huilohuilo.com/en/where-to-stay/hotels/nothofagus/). It is quite extensive. The really amazing thing is the architecture, Where we are staying, the building is like a ice cream cone that gets wider and wider as it goes up. The interior is one continuous ramp with the rooms on the outside and a hollow center that has a tree growing inside. The construction is a marvel with curved surfaces, live edge planks, large beams and huge tree trunks incorporated into the walls. Our room is on the top level and we have a huge picture window looking out over the trees and the snow capped Shoshuenco volcano. It has two levels with a stairway made of split logs Of course you have to get here first. We took a private car from Puerto Varas for 3.5 hours starting on the Pan-American highway for 2 hours. Then we took secondary roads to Panguipilli and got there in an hour or so. I asked the driver for a bano, bathrookm, and he asked me numero uno or numero dos. I said uno and he said bano naturale? Being a former country boy I said Si! He pulled over and I jumped up over the shoulder of the road and into the woods. I had consumed a substantial amount of tea that day so by the time I returned to the car, Leslie and the driver were laughing. He told her that I could have written both of our names in the time it took me for take care of numero uno.
