11 December 2021 Santiago Chile: Lunch at Ambrosia


Listed at #26 in the top 50 restaurants in South America for 2021, Ambrosia is quite the treat.  We had a little difficulty with the Uber.  It was operator error as I booked a trip to a different Ambrosia!  Oops...I was able to change the destination relatively quickly and we were still at our destination early as usual.  We had our pick of seats and even though it was a bit brisk we chose the outdoor seating.  That was the best decision as the sun came out and it warmed up quickly.  Our server was named Camilla and she was the go to server for English speakers.  She told us she was in Singapore as a child when she learned English.  Power Rangers was one of the shows she watched to help with her English.  The menu was 13 pages long of which 10 were for drinks of one form or another.  Leslie got a glass of bubbly and I got a glass of Cabernet.  We saw over a dozen other types of drinks being served.  Mojitos, Campari, pisco sours, were easily recognized and a half dozen other drinks came out in all colors of the rainbow.  We watched a strawberry gin drink get mixed at the table and I was greatly tempted to try one myself.  Wise advice came from my dining companion and I passed on the gin.  The neighbor was cooking some tasty meat over a wood fire and the smoke and smell was a delicious addition to our meal.  Other diners may not have agreed, at least until their drinks arrived.  It was a lovely meal and we even got dessert!

The neighbors were cooking meat over a wood fire and the great smelling smoke was wafting into the eating area.  You can see the smoke back lit here.


Appetizers:  a burrata of mozzarella cheese with pesto and a ceviche of salmon with a puree of peppers and avocado


Covina with radishes, capers, roasted almond slices and a puree of cauliflower


Slow cooked medallions of lamb with a green bean puree, peas and carrots


 A fine tasty water


A thinly sliced pear with a jasmine infused ganache for Leslie


A chocolate mouse with chocolate cookie dirt and a caramel swirl for me
