Like most cities there is a big disparity between the various sections. The new city is quite developed and the old town is a hive of restoration activity. However we saw some areas in deep decline on our way to the Canal zone. The ride to Gamboa was around an hour and was bumpy and pretty rough. There was lots of construction on the road that we had to navigate around. The signs for animals were comical as the animal was always depicted as bigger than the car about to collide with it. Our driver gave us a running narrative, in Spanish, of all the areas we drove through. We liked it and got about 75% of what he was telling us. Soon we were pulling into the Gamboa Rainforest Reserve
Morning light on the city
A photo shoot, one of many we saw in the old town
More Presidential guards
Sometimes we got a Key West vibe with the colorful buildings
From across the water looking back at the old town
It has a charm seen best from afar
A large government building
Our first glimpse of the canal
We are getting close
We have arrived
