A spot of tea and off to Amber Street

As we love to do, we stopped in a cafe for some green tea. This gave us a chance to talk to our guide Tomas at greater length. He then took us down to the street of Amber. He discussed how Amber came to be concentrated in this area in ancient times. We saw Amber shops up and down the street. When our guide described the population of Gdansk.  He included Poles and an ehtnic minority, the Karaites. These people have their own language and when Poland was getting split up they wanted to stay Poles instead of becoming Germans. They're known for being  farmers and fishermen, and producing fine Linens. Leslie actually purchased some of those Linens. We saw the oldest building in Gdansk. We wound around and finisbef up at the armory. The Armory was very extensive, with areas to make gunpowder store cannons as well as grain and then dispense them as needed.

Over the top literally and figuratively

Greco-Roman Style

A lion fountain

From 1451 is how old this house is

That's 567 years old

There were displays in front of each of the houses where they would put their goods. Mostly it was Amber

Putting Amber items out for display

Another gate back to the harbor. Where tolls were collected

We did not drink gold water but we drink green tea water

I am not sure what the name of this instrument is

We saw this pirate boat again and again

I did not drink any of it but I like the name

Unless this Turtle can learn to fly he'll be stuck up there forever

In front of an ordinary house is such a fine piece of limestone carving

The shop with Linens

Because their language was forbidden they had these pictures up to help teach kids the language through song

An official length called The Wire

The Armory

There is symbolism up and down and left and right all over the front of this building

Lions to represent the king

Knights to represent the Defenders of the town

Exploding bombs on top to represent what the building was for

Mustachioed men well to represent mustachioed men

Dragons as downspouts

As we're leaving the old town we came across this building

The four women on this side of the building represented virtues

On the left is Justice and on the right is freedom

On the left is and on the right is fine

 Are these bells?

St George and the Dragon

 so much going on here
