Polish. After the war Poland was reunited and the city was part of it. Many people were displaced by the war and a whole group of migrants resettled in the city. They were instrumental in the rebuilding process starting with apartments and then working on other buildings after that. We started at the Green Gates which were the gates to the city where they could collect tolls. Moveimg down the Boulevard we saw the city hall where the measurement sticks were hung in full display. They were very concerned about fair trade so everybody could come and measure thier foot against the standard foot, yard against yard and wire against wire. We also saw a statue of Neptune which makes sense because it was a Seaport. There was a statue of Hermes who was a god of Commerce. The buildings were as ornate as any we've seen on the trip. There were a multitude of items on the rooftops. From god's to turtles to storks and everything in between. Represented on the buildings were polish Kings, Copernicus, and Fahrenheit. Tomas told us how Fahrenheit came up with his set points for the thermometer. The coldest day he had ever seen in his life he marked a zero and he measure the temperature of one of the servants who had a fever at the time and came up with 100. He's from Gdansk but is not known much here because they use celsius and not Fahrenheit.
This is the level of Destruction
It's hard to look at knowing that this destruction was not an act of nature but an act of man
These are the Green Gates named because they were next to the green bridge

This is a fountain and a statue. Prior to Mechanical pumping people had to climb up a ladder with buckets to fill up a reservoir that would only allow the fountain to run for 1 hour
Hermes is associated with Commerce because he's so fast on his feet
The last remaining oil lamp. You would fill up the reservoir and torch it
An official foot official yard and official wire. They were hung out in front of City Hall so everybody could check on everybody else's measurement devices
