Flam to Mrydal Tourist Train

This Scenic railroad goes up almost 1000 feet. It has a grade of 1 to 18 which is the steepest normal gauge railroad in northern Europe. It was completed in 1944 but it took 20 years to build. 18 of the 20 tunnels were dug by hand. That's 6 kilometres dug by hand through hard rock. We had a great time on the train and had a delightful conversation with a Norwegian girl named Gunnvor.  She laughed when she told us this because it's a very old fashioned Norwegian name. She likes it though and when we told her we were from Miami her eyes lit up. She is already booked a flight to south Florida and so she gave us as much information as we got out of her. The trip starts at Flam and goes up a valley with a river running down through it. We saw more waterfalls and farmhouses. We also daw alot of hikers and bicyclists.  They were using  the trails  along the way. The train stopped midway for a beautiful photo shoot next to a Waterfall. Leslie and I were admiring the water when we heard some music. We didn't know where the music came from but then we noticed a lady with a big head of blonde hair and a shocking red outfit dancing up in the ruins. She jumped down behind a rock and then popped up five hundred feet away over by the waterfall for more rhythmic dancing. She jumped down again in and popped up once more over by the ruins. We think perhaps they might be two women or sorcery going on.   Since the Railroad runs on electricity this waterfalls used to generate that electricity, brilliant.
Off the boat yeah

There are lots of shops for clothes and souvenirs and such and one shop had this grey fox

Right next to a red fox

1 outdoor booths head is tasty raspberries. They had been delivered by the Farmer just two hours previously

Norway in a nutshell is a well oiled machine one train and loads and then it loads again immediately

Scored a great seat on the correct side with a window that will open

Nice wooden Interiors and not overly packed with people

You guessed it a fabulous waterfall

A little town

The funny thing is that this is probably a 500 foot drop for the waterfall

So many different shades of green in the valley

The gushing river that we went past

Waterfall waterfall waterfall

I love these flowers they reminded me of the lupins in Iceland

Steep sides to the Valley

Here comes the next train downhill

These rappers would be too tricky to try to Canoe through

Gunnvor off of work for a few days of hiking

Maybe a better spot for our summer home

This is the road they used to make some of the tunnels for the train. It is now a hiking and biking Trail

You see two layers of tunnels that somehow we traversed through both of them

I am so glad I did not have to dig these tunnels by hand

Rushing river water

We have arrived at the waterfall photoshoot

A cute dog got to take the train ride too

Everyone poured out of the train, so many people we barely noticed the lady in red on the top right hand corner

It's a good thing she wore red or fewer people would notice her

I hope she has good balance that would be a hard fall and a long way down

Apparently this is based on a Norwegian folk tale of a woman with a cows tail that would lure men into the water.

She's got some moves

We're just having a blast

This is a new for me see if there's video works exclamation point
