The ruins on Gotland

Visby was a central trading hub for the Hanseatic League. The Hanseatic League was really big in the 1200's and 1300's but their influence waned in later years. That left Visby alone on an island.  Without so much Commerce anymore it went into decline. As such a lot of the old buildings fell into disrepair. They are now protected and the ruins remain to keep the old-time charm in the town
Which is more amazing that this was built in the 1200's

Or that this much is still standing

The archway is unbelievable

Another beautiful sunny day

Archways domes and a circular window

Pigeon holes literally

The ceramic tile on the roof has the domed part down instead of the domed part up like we're used to. I wonder if that has to do with snow?

I really like all the flowers around the statue in contrast to the ruins behind it

Ride the ram

Buildings are very tightly packed

 Quite the skylight

Stonework incredible

The ruins are probably three times as old as this tree

An ancient urinal

With a modern trough on the inside
