The Hermitage part one the building

Everything had been building up to this. The Hermitage! Seriously we could have spent an entire week in here and still be thirsty for more. I will give you three separate sections on the Hermitage but this one is just the building and the Winter Palace together.  There are several buildings that together are the Hermitage.   We started with the winter palace and the moved on to the next building that was designed to display the art collection of the Nobility.
The entry was was designed to impress the granite columns were brought in through a hole in the exterior that was opened to allow workers to bring them in. The wall was repaired after.

Tall ceilings with fine art up top

This is a proper throne room

The throne looks tiny in this setting

Again some incredible floors

Doors 10 feet tall

We entered early, before the official opening.  We were number 11 and 12 to get into the door

A well designed ballroom

6000 pounds of chandelier the largest in the world

In the throne room the designs in the floor match th he designs in the ceiling

This is the line that we were able to cut in front of.  It's good to hire a private guide
