The nice things Peter had

They said Peter the great was a man of simple needs. But I think perhaps Catherine his wife had less simple needs. Because somebody in that marriage really like nice things. Here are pictures of those nice things. We do know Peter was very involved in laying out the garden so here are pictures of the fountains and the Garden area.
The small throne room

A sculpture of a  veiled woman

One great ceiling

Unlike all the Clarks in the castle in Stockholm, none of these clocks read the same time.

The reason for the non functioning clocks is that they are so old and even though they may work they don't want to have the mechanisms wear out

Did not want to stand and with this giant chandelier

There was a Oriental roon that was so delicate we could not stop in there. We had to keep moving which made it a difficult photo to take

A photo on the fly

Harpsicord

A highlight in the room of portraits

lacquered cabinetry

A delicate harp

Captain Hook gave a gift

Another fine timepiece, the guide said if all the clocks were working, there would be too much noise

Peter wins!

Mermen

Is wrestling a larger snake than you would think

More snake wrestling

The Gardens were in full Bloom

So many delightful little flowers

Very pretty indeed

They had gardener's out working all the time

This is called the chess fountain witch cascades on down a striped base

A very tall fountain. We got to hear the gurgling in the pipes as the water reached all the fountains
