We had a bit of a celebration on the balcony right after we arrived. Then we took off into town The old town is a works heritage site and it is stunning. UNESCO says it is the "harmonious blend of the architectural styles and artistic movements that have succeeded each other from the Middle Ages until thew 18th century, from the many neighboring regions of Central and Mediterranean Europe". That sums it up so well that I copied their verbiage exactly. We saw some odd things, like the eggs seen above and an Alpine Horn style of digeridoo. We also saw some cool things like a brass band playing James Brown and Eye of the Tiger. We had another happy hour at a sidewalk cafe and both shared a large order of people watching. Lots of cute dogs passed us and we are so happy that dogs are accepted everywhere. One pair of spaniels were so cute that Leslie said out loud, "Oh, so cute!". The owner, Karen, was happy to hear it and she and Leslie struck up a conversation. It turns out that Karen is from St. Louis and is also retired. She went to Lindbergh High School (this is an inside joke for the St. Louis folks). We went to dinner at Landhaus Keller. Ooohhh was that good. To get everything started Leslie ordered a beer but I had had enough so I declined. I think I said "no, I'm fine" which must have sounded like "yes, red wine". So before you know it a tall beer and a big pour of a jammy red wine showed up. I guess the universe had other plans for my wine consumption. Starters included a pumpkin soup with shrimp tartar and a hint of curry, plus a baked goat cheese for me. For the maon dishes Leslie got a salmon-trout dish and I got the braised pork cheeks. Both were super tasty and reasonably priced.
