Our place is perched on the top of a hill along the river Salzach. It is a pretty steep climb up and down which we call a buzzkill. The folks here understand so they guided us through a park to the Modern Art Museum, also on the hill, to the elevators! They also gave us passes to allow us unlimited rides. The elevators let us off right in the old town and we had a great time walking and gawking. We noticed a large number and variety of dogs walking through town. At first we chalked this up to the progressive local attitude towards dogs. But when we stopped to say hi to a couple of beautiful Rhodesian Ridgebacks, the owners told us that there is a dog show going on in town. Now we have a new activity to add to the list. We stopped for tea and hot chocolate at the 300 year old Cafe Tomaselli. They claim that Mozart probably had some tasty drinks there but they really can't remember. A tasty treat seemed like a great addition so we got a torte. It was a popular spot and since we had a window seat it was a great place for people watching. Along with the people we also were watching dogs. After a bit we walked over the pedestrian bridge over to the Mirabelle Palace Gardens. The roses were spectacular and the statuary was impressive. No outing would be complete without a stop in a wine bar. I tasted a few and then bought a bottle. They convinced Leslie to taste a bit of bubbly. Then we stopped in the oldest continuously operated shop in Salzburg. They were selling traditional clothing and Leslie got the most beautiful shawl. The owner was very nice and she said that the shop has been in the family the entire time. T looked a a fin set of hand made deer skin lederhosen but 600 euro was too steep a price to pay.
