2 October 2021 Lyon Lunch at Paul Bocuse

This was the dessert selection at Paul Bocuse's restaurant!  I start with this picture because it gives you an idea of how elaborate our dining experience was.  First the drive to the restaurant was a delightful drive along the river.  We left the city center behind and started to see charming single family homes.  The building that houses the restaurant is painted and there are murals all over the outside.  The murals tell the story of Paul and his interactions with other chefs.  There was one with him and Julia Child.  We were ushered in to a elegant upstairs dining room.  Our server extraordinaire was named Geoffary has worked here for 20 years, half of his life.  He made us feel at home and took care of our every need. We were given multiple options to choose from.  We could order single dishes or a three course set menu or a nine course  set menu.  After the overstuffing we got in St Remy we decided to play it safe and do the Autumn Card Menu Classic.  The Bourgeoisie nine course menu would have been way too much.  Of course three courses has a way of turning into six or seven courses so no one came away feeling hungry.

What a beautifully painted building

These were the various high water levels of famous floods

Perhaps this is a effigy of a food critic

A window into the kitchen

Our amuse bouche was a round anchovy and caramelized onions tart and a white fig with a Rochefort mousse

A butternut squash soup with creamy garnish

The real first course was whitefish with breadcrumbs formed into an egg like shape and stuffed with lobster in a creamy sauce.  The garnish in the middle is a carved button mushroom

The second course was chicken served with a cream sauce and two kinds of morel mushrooms.  The traditional black morel and the white pine morel.  So very good!

This is a cheese plate to write home about,  It is just a given in France that there is cheese.

Large servings of cheese for everyone

The pre-dessert was a lime and ginger dish with pineapple

A super flavorful passionfruit bite is also a pre dessert

What a great presentation!
