21 October 2021 Hallstatt Vienna

Hallstatt is on the Great Romantic road of Austria.  We had to laugh each time the GPS mentioned our next turn.  It would say "slight left to stay on B166 and great romantish strasse".  It was a mouth full each time.  Hallstatt was built up because they have a salt mountain and the white gold funded the creation of the city.  It is located on a lake and to get to it one must travel through an old school one lane tunnel.  The clouds turned to light rain when we emerged from the tunnel and the wind picked up as well.  We carried on and walked into town from the parking areas.  It is a quaint town perched on a thin piece of land on the slope next to the lake.  We popped into the Brauhaus for a hearty soup and salad lunch.  It hit the spot and reinvigorated us.  Upon our exit the rain had picked up and so did the wind off of the lake.  We walked quickly through town and headed back to the car.  We had not gone more than a few kilometers before the rain really started to come down.  It rained for a half hour or forty five minutes and then a rainbow emerged!  It was along the Wolfgangsee lake where the locals were kite surfing.  Wet suits were worn by all!  An additional half hour drive brought right into Salzburg and our new digs, the fabulous Hotel Schloss Monchstein.

Approaching the center of town

A boat cruise anyone?

There is very little space for the town

Houses leading into town, you can see from the rain drop that it is starting to rain harder
