Above is St. Peter church clocktower that we can see from out balcony. We had our longest drive yet but we also got our earliest start. We left Epernay at 6:15 AM to get Laura up to her high speed train ride to Paris. It was s till dark and so we had no trouble with traffic. In fact we got a jump on the truckers so our ride to Strasbourg was pretty smooth with only one stretch of crazy construction. We stopped briefly in Strasbourg to stock up on staples, eggs, cheese, smoked salmon and bread. Then before we knew it we were in Germany. A couple more hours of highway driving until we got onto some back roads. We drove through Freiburg and I broke out in song, "and this Burg will never change..." After Freiburg, we drove through a crack in the rocks, up some switchbacks and got into steep mountains. Everywhere it was green and lush. Tiny villages dotted our path and we soon made it to the Rheinfalls. These falls are the biggest in Europe and quite impressive. From there, Zurich was only a half hour away!
High Speed Train Station. A 45 minute train ride or a 3 hour drive to get to Paris
Black Forest beautiful
A mix of evergreens and deciduous trees
What the hut?
We can get a recharge at the top of the hill. The hair pin turn at the left was where the road turned around a huge monolithic rock
A ski jump with a ski lift being built right next to it.
This sign is not as big as the one for Lyon
The castle is the entrance to the walkways down
This must be the monster that lives in the bottom of the waterfalls
The falls from up on high. The most impressive area is bottom left
Whitewater everywhere
The Swiss flag is the top of a walkway that you can only get to by boat
Working my way down the stairs
The boat getting all the passengers wet
The drop in front of there folks is about 25 feet
A crack in the wall to get to another viewpoint
Whoosh!
The lowest platform is actually over the water
It was loud and wet
From the glass enclosed elevator
Goodbye Rhinefalls
