Lichtenstein is a small country, the sixth smallest in the world. Its only 25 km long and has 38.000 or so inhabitants. It is tucked away in a valley between two mountain ranges and is not easy to get to. That is why it still exists and has not been swallowed up by bigger conquest driven nations. One thing it has in abundance is natural beauty. The Vaduz Castle dates from the 12th century and the upper Rhine River runs through the valley. We are booked in the Park Sonnenhof hotel which is just incredible. We are one of two rooms that are booked in the entire hotel. We had received an email three weeks prior to our arrival informing us that the hotel needed to close on Sundays and Mondays due to staffing issues. Unfortunately for us we had booked Sunday and Monday! We respectfully told them we could not reschedule so they let us stay here anyway. That was very nice of them. The onsite resturant was closed and so to were all of the restaurants in Vaduz. Sundays are day of rest for everybody. We got into the room and then got back into the car to seek out sustenance. The local supermarket was still open so we picked up a minimal dinner. Ramen and Cup O Soup took us both back to the college days but it allowed us to enjoy the sunset from our deck and still have some dinner.
