Colmar, how beautiful you are. Once we got into our incredible AirBnB and laughed with our host we took a stroll into Colmar "center". There were numerous grand houses along our walk. Unexpectedly we saw a beaver! He was sitting next to a sunken boat with his beaver sticks ready to nibble on. I put center in quotes because it is not the same as the old town. After a scenic detour in the drizzle we jumped into a cab and got driven to the old town. Here the drizzly walking much more enjoyable as the town in drop dead beautiful. As out host pointed out this area was German for 1000 years French for 300 years and way back in the day part of the Roman empire. The German influence is very evident in the half timbered houses seen above.
The forecast for Lyon called for rain all day long. We had a bit of drizzle driving through Switzerland but not much. However as soon as we crossed into France it rained non stop.
Our view from the balcony

A make shift beaver den
Betty the Beaver is what we named her
I wonder why this boat sank. Perhaps the wood was too tasty
A statue of Bartholdi
He designed the Statue of Liberty and rocked a serious stache
Nice digs
A tower in a park we walked past is the fanciest water tower I have ever seen
Pointers we should have followed
Chateau d'Eau or the Homer Simpson Chateau
The flowers are everywhere
On Sundays only Tourist shops, Coffee shops, Bars and Restaurants are allowed to be open. Lucky for us wine is a tourist item

The flowers here were nice but nothing close to the maximum
the rainbow of colors was unending
French and German styles intermixed
Big honking church in the center of old town
Dinner at the bar Le Cercle des Aromes. 200 wines by the glass !!!!
What a lovely pair of ladies
Red, blush, and white. Riesling in the Alsace region is dry and Pino Noir is fruity!
Putting the hip in hipster bar
We had a variety of meats and olive tamponade for dinner. They were not a restaurant per say. I guess we did not get past 200 wines by the glass!
