Dinner at Kai

Peter reviewed our dining options with us. We had done our research so we were familiar with most of the options. Being quite the concierge extraordinaire, he was able to make a call and get us into Kai. Kai is a sophisticated Chinese resturant with one Michelin star. They are trying hard to get the second star. We freshened up and got fancy. It was a quick walk to the restaurant. We got to see some of Mayfair on the way. We were impressed with Kai right away. The entry was was loaded with art. Out table was downstairs next to the wine cellar. They have over 300 labels of wine. We got to talk to the Spanish sommelier for some time that was great. Leslie was up looking around and the owner asked her if dhe needed help. She said no she just wanted to see the restaurant and so he took her on an entire restaurant tour! They got to talking about travel and he is originally from New Zealand. We assured him that we had to go back because he did not think two days in Auckland was sufficient for a New Zealand excursion.  For starters we ordered the nest of imperial jewels. Leslie ordered the crispy fragrant duck and I ordered the spicy lobster chilli. The Nest of imperial jewels was a tasty mixture of goodies on a lettuce leaf. It was refreshing and flavorful and a great introduction to our restaurant experience. The duck was pulled from the bone tableside and served with chinese pancakes, plum sauce, scallions  and cucumbers. My spicy lobster was a bit too spicy for Leslie. It's a good thing that there was so much duck for her to fill up on. The artwork around was all centred on a single model that they specifically used for this restaurant. With the exception of two very unusual incidents with small children our Kai experience here was extraordinary.

Art on the side of a building on our way to the restaurant

Some of the buildings are in an entire city block they are as ornate and beautiful as you can imagine

This great Facade is for a sportsman's shop

There were two dogs out at the front of that shop

We are trying some trick photography in the mirror across from our table
